Jotun Penguard HB as topcoat finish primer

Has anyone any experience using Jotun HB as the primer before spray painting with one of the marine 2 part polyurethanes?

Surely someone has thought of that, given the extortionate pricing of the proprietary paint vendor finish primers? I find it hard to believe there is some magic chemistry that makes the expensive epoxy primers that much better than Jotun HB, but I have not found any info, one way or the other.

Thanks if anyone has any feedback on this.

Re: Jotun Penguard HB as topcoat finish primer

Thanks for that. I'm pretty familiar with the HB having used it on a couple of other builds but never as the primer just before painting. Our boat is almost finished with the HB and it got me wondering, why put another epoxy primer on over the HB?

Which paint did you use over the HB? And how long ago was the paint job, if I may ask?

Not alot of feedback on this one, I guess I'm pioneering again.

FWIW have heard from Jotun that HB can be used with their PU topcoat, and I'm assuming other paint manufacturer topcoats are not chemically radically different. But if anyone knows alot about paint chemistry their comment would be welcome...

Sorry, did not see your post about using Hardtop AS. Did you mean AX? Jotun Thailand recommend Hardtop AX as the highest gloss option. Our build is in Thailand, near Sattahip.
