Fixing gaps at the cap rail

Along the inside of my cap rail there are occasional gaps and when it rains, the rain wicks into these caps and finds it's way into the cabin. How should I go about fixing these?

In the short term, what should I use to seal these holes until I have the time/cash to fix properly?

Re: Fixing gaps at the cap rail

I would dig it out, make sure it was dry, mask both sides (deck and rail) and run a nice bead of 5200 or polyurethane caulk smoothed with a gloved finger then immediately remove the tape then open a beer.

Re: Fixing gaps at the cap rail

So, the toe rail is on top of the hull to deck joint? Really, probably the whole hull to deck joint needs re-bedding.

However, clean it up, mask it, and re-seal the whole length of each side with fresh caulk of your choice. It will last for a *while*. Not best practice, but sometimes one just cannot do best practice.
