Diesel Fuel Filter

Hello,

I want to replace the fuel filter ( secondary filter or the filter that is directly on the motor ) . After long search and many cross-references later i purchased this filter https://www.fram.com/parts-search/P8...VlTXbQtY83QLpA

The motor is MD7A Volvo

I am new to diesel motors and i would like to know what is the difference between filter w/o the drain plug and with the drain plug.

I did my little research and didnt find any conclusive information.

If i understand correctly , its just to drain water from time to time ? like primary filter

Apparently some models of Volvo require drains and others don't.
