Cold Molded Bow Repair

We hit a log that shook Imagine violently 3 weeks ago. I was scrubbing the bottom 2 days ago, and noticed there is some fiber glass missing. I worry about toredo worms. Is there an epoxy that will work underwater? I have used a couple different ones over the years with no success.......i2f

LePage "Marine Epoxy" is a two-part system, consisting of an epoxy resin and a hardener, which claims it can be applied and cured underwater.
I’ve never used it, myself.

FWIW...........BoatLife's LIFE CAULK is appliable underwater, not an epoxy, but probably unpalatable to Toredo's.

I considered Caulk from boatlife,but my keels were incased in some kind of rubber. It seemed similiar to caulking. They ate right through the rubber, and made amess of the false keels. Thank goodness they were seperate from the boat's actual structure. One was well over a foot long. You can see here on the lower part of the board.

Has anyone any experience with Le Page? I don't know how easy it will be to get something here in Costa Rica......i2f

May want to contact Gougeon West System Epoxy. I have used their newer "G flex" epoxy, but not underwater, but I believe the instructions that came with the product stated this can be used and applied underwater. Google the above and it will direct you to their website. They are very willing to discuss anything about their epoxy and have many articles of repairs and building with epoxy in their "boatworks" journal.

I never thought of west, and Imagine is built with west. I have done all repairs with the system. I dropped them a line, and thanks for sparking up my dead brain..........i2f

How big an area is left bare? And yes, you should be worried about worm!

I've used SpLash Zone underwater epoxy putty successfully, but never in an application where a large area must be covered.

It is only 1X3 inch. As you can in my last post I have met the worms. The other day was my first chance to get in the water. The keel, and skeg took a nasty hit too, but nothing more than impressions that I could see without my glasses on.......i2f

Splash Zone by ZSpar/Pettit will keep you afloat until the next time you haul. We sold a ton of it to the old wooden freighters from Haiti that came up the Miami River. Works great on steel as well. If you need to you can embed a piece of fiberglass cloth in it to reinforce it.

doesnt marine tex cure under water? most cruisers i knew carried some for this possibility. the urethane glue sold by elmers and gorilla actually cures better if you spray it with water... wonder if you spread it on if it would do until you get hauled.?
