Abrasive Blasting NSW East Coast

We will have to blast and re-coat our steel hull this year. (Got 30 years out of it!)
Does anybody have any experience, positive or negative regarding abrasive blasting contractors near us?
We are on the Central Coast but anywhere close to Sydney, Newcastle or Wollongong would work.
Looking for a really good honest operator.

Thanks,
Richard

Re: Abrasive Blasting NSW East Coast

There is a a hard standing area near Woy Woy that will facilitate blasting but need to truck the boat a short distance to storage.

The guys in Northern NSW are shutting down. Bloody EPA at it again.

I had mine done at Maryborough Slipways. Nice people.

Re: Abrasive Blasting NSW East Coast

Ask around. Some blasters won't touch boats whereas others make it almost their speciality. Also, with the mining downturn you're no longer likely to be hit with a "mining tax" (aka rip-off price) but it would still pay to get a number of quotes. In any case, confirm with them about how they will work with softer fairing compounds (if applicable) as this is something most industrial blasters don't regularly deal with.

Re: Abrasive Blasting NSW East Coast

Thanks Stillbuilding and Reefmagnet, the Woy Woy option sounds good if I can find somewhere to lift the boat out.
People usually crane out at Koolewong, but I am not sure there is enough water there for us (Need just under six feet).

Regards,
Richard.
