Re: 50 Must Have's

Also, anything you would use on deck that could bounce into the water needs redundancy.

Re: 50 Must Have's

Ok,
Some female input:
Sharp, good knifes, pots that fit the galley and the nr of people, fish cutting knife, fish gear and spare hooks and lures..
And my book :-) sorry it is in Dutch but you will like the pictures anyway: “Food on a boat, heerlijk zeilen van Mexico naar Australie”, with loads of tips and recipes for to cook on board and during crossings.

And then the funny part. We bought our boat in Florida, and the previous owners took all the tools home (as agreed).
So we went to the a huge tool store, my friend having a huge shopping list (like the ones above) and filling the huge shopping cart.
Finaly at the check out I expected a Boat (bring out another thousand), so when it was ‘only’ about half, I shouted out, as I was positively surprised ‘ that’s ok!’. And the cashier replied “I wish all men had a wife like you” .🤭

Invited on his boat, I discovered that his entire forward cabin and forepeak was stuffed to the brim with every tool he had used to build his boat.

Learning that I wanted to build a steel boat myself, he mentioned he'd be willing to sell all his tools to me.

Over the course of about 12 beers or so, we bickered back and forth, as to what the value of his tools might be, and in the end we settled on a sum of about $200.

It took me about about two dozen or more trips from his boat to my car. I first filled the trunk, then the rear seat, then the front passenger seat, finally resorting to tying some tools on top of my car roof. When I was done, there was not a square inch to spare anymore.

My car was literally riding on it's rims, it was so heavily laden. Welders, grinders, and every electrical tool you could possible imagine, plus about a gazillion other odds and ends.

Eventually a majority of these tools found a new home on my boat.
50 is child's play for me.

Jesus - what kind of beer were you guys drinking?

Re: 50 Must Have's

this tread calls to mind the outback tool box

a hammer if it doesn't move and duct tape if it does move

simple

(oh, and a bit of fencing wire if you're feeling fancy)

cheers,

You don't need to be female to agree with a properly appointed galley! As a solo male cruiser in a 27' boat I took a lot of time paring my galley and all other tools down to the essentials and ensuring it all fit where I wanted it to fit!

I find it hard to imagine that a cart full of tools in America was only $500, even if this was 25 years ago. You guys were lucky!

Re: 50 Must Have's

One I haven't seen mentioned is.... a nerf football. Obviously it's great fun at the beach
They are very versatile in plugging just about any hole in the hull smaller than its full size. Squeeze it tight and push it thru the hole. It will expand when you let go and stop water flow.
