Maybe have a look at Locktite (Permatex) Copper gasket spray.

permatex® copper spray-a-gasket® hi-temp sealant
Fast drying, metallic copper spray adhesive/sealant
prevents gasket burnout and improves heat transfer
fills minor surface irregularities
fills hot spots and surface imperfections
resists all types of automotive fluids, especially gasoline
temperature range -46°C to 260°C (-50°F to 500°F)
Applications: Cylinder head gaskets, carburetor gaskets, exhaust manifold gaskets and other high temperature applications.

As an aside, what was the condition of your oil pump.

It appears to me that these engines have weakness in the oil pump department and while I have remachined mine and believe it to as good as new, I was wondering if yours was worn and if so, have you worried about it?

Update, the block came back from the machine shop a couple of weeks ago and the liner has been refitted. All was sweet, it was exactly 4 thou proud all the way around.

Engine is slowly going back together without any other issues (yet ).
