Yanmar YSB 12 Parts & Gaskets

Attention Yanmar Marine Diesel YSB12 owners current and past!
(or anyone else who could lend some advice)

I'm looking for where I could get Yanmar parts specifically for the transmission and the exhaust. Gaskets are the big deal on this job I've undertaken, but some of the exhaust parts new or used would be welcomed to get the boat back in the water.

I have some part numbers, would definitely consider aftermarkets that fit.

When I rebuilt my YSE8, I hand made all the gaskets except the head gasket.

I used run of the mill gasket paper except for the exhaust gasket where I used exhaust gasket material.

I can't remember the thickness but I guess it was 20 or 40 thou. The exhaust gasket material was thicker of course.

A small ball peen hammer, 8 & 10 mm wad punches, good scissors (or box cutter) make the job easier.

The gasket for the same: part# 104500-13201

i ordered some parts from an outfit on Alibaba called "Sunity" (https://sunity.en.alibaba.com/) for my YSB8. it took quite a few back-and-forth messages to order the correct parts (tl;dr - just send them the part numbers from the get-go), and then i had to wait out one of those country-wide holidays, but once they finally shipped i got them fairly quickly.


i got an injection pump, HP fuel line, precombustion chamber, and some various gaskets. the injection pump, chamber and fuel line were great and i have about fifty hours on them; unfortunately the gaskets they sent were marginal and i ended up cutting my own from gasket sheet stock. i also ordered a set of shims for the fuel pump but what was delivered was so thick they were completely unusable. the savings over yanmar prices were significant even with the gaskets i threw away.



the YSB, YSE, YSM motors are based on a farm utility engine designed to run pumps, generators, tractors and the like. yanmar sold them in great quantity for decades. the rebuild parts like the piston & sleeve, rod & rod bearing, injector, injection pump are all available and likely will be for quite a while longer.



there is a fair amount of video available on youtube of rebuilding these and related TS and TF series motors.

No prob., if they don't happen to have the exhaust elbow and gasket maybe they could give some clues on where to procure them in North America.

I'm now checking with an outfit out of Europe that has one in stock. Despite being closer to me than some other points in North America the freight charges are a real kick in the wallet!
