Mine is bronze, but if it weren’t I’d have a hybrid dry stack one made, the upside down U part is dry and uncooled and covered by insulation, then inject the water downstream. No way water can back up into the engine that way and ruin your motor.
Example, the attached pic is the Nexgen 3.5 KW exhaust, old and new, the old was conventional fully cooled SS and ruined motors when it failed, so they made the new one and covered it with insulation and injected the water downstream.Attachment 162304
I have a hi rise setup on my current yanmar. As one that has hydrolocked a previous engine due to siphon valve salting up I much prefer this method.

On the 32 Bob Johnson was a little close with the tolerance between the aft berth engine cover and the tip of the mixing elbow. I have even thought about changing the stuffing tube angle up slightly so I could have a little extra clearance. Probably add to the life of the motor mounts to get the engine/transmission down a bit. No room for a new/improved design unless I want a box sticking up in the aft berth .
