Vetus Waterlock design

My thread on ABS plastic goosenecks has me thinking about the merits of Vetus' PVC plastic "Waterlock" mufflers. My interpretation of the word "Waterlock" was that there was some kind of check valve, but allegedly (I have never owned one) if you pour water in the outlet, you can tip the muffler and have the water come back out the inlet. If this is the case and again, I don't know how accurate that information is, then I am left to assume that the design is based solely on the volume of the muffler capturing the drain back from the hose as well as any remaining residual water present in the muffler once the engine is shut off.

Can anyone confirm that this is the case? If it is, then the "Waterlock" is nothing more than an appropriately sized water-lift muffler.

The location, volume and drop down to the muffler provide the protection. There is no valve in the muffler.

We have both the horizontal waterlock muffler after the engine and the vertical gooseneck at the transom to prevent following seas from pushing water up.

That's what I thought. Thanks
