Man I hate that
Had the same dumb monkey talking to me about our Kubota d950 Genset
Can't tell me where the serial number is and can't get through his pea brain that engines aren't always in tractors.
Trying to tell me there is no oil pan gasket , it's a sealant fix yet I can buy gaskets on Alibaba and eBay.

Re: The Universal M25 is winning the battle

An update, as the engine is still winning. Redid the compression test, and got 250 psi in the #2 cylinder when I bought a deep socket and tightened up the dummy injector. Also did a wet compression test by squirting a bit of motor oil in each cylinder and repeating the check. The #1 cylinder jumped from 120 psi dry to 250 wet, which probably is rings, while the other two cylinders went from 250 to 280.

I also put the injector pipes back on but rotated so I could see the injector spray. It took a LOT of turning over, but the injectors finally started sprayiing, so the problem is not the basic fuel system (i am still suspicious of a sticking rack in the IP, given the previous behavior. I did try to look at the water pump">raw water pump. Access is terrible, but it does have a build up of rust and salt on the outside.

The owner said he was too busy to help and was worried that he would screw things up worse. I am taking off for a month long delivery, so I have given him the names of the local mechanics.

Re: The Universal M25 is winning the battle

There is a fuel additive which is SUPPOSED to free up stuck rings. I presume that the rack is not directly accessible ? One individual pump sticking could easily make the rack difficult or sticky to move. Take the top off the individual pumps and fill the cavity with WD40 so that it seeps down outside the sleeve. I had one that was sticky, but I did have access to the rack. It took quite a bit of persuasion to get it moving again, then one piston was sticking and pushing loads of fuel into one cylinder. WD40 again, and a brass rod to tap it down each time it was lifted. Clouds of dry soot out the exhaust until it freed up.

Re: The Universal M25 is winning the battle

To free up the piston rings, I would pull the injectors and pour low viscosity oil into the cylinders through the injector ports (Marvel mystery oil / Kroil oil / trans fluid) then let it sit for a week or more, manually rotating the engine periodically then topping off the cylinders.

Then drain the engine oil, refill with SAE 30, run the engine, then drain and refill again.

If that doesn't work it is engine removal time.
