Primary Fuel Filter Vertical Separation Question

I plan to move the primary fuel/water filter from under the sole to about 3' (1m) above the sole. Initially I could not see problems but my over active brain is second guessing the idea.

Can anyone see any negative ramifications with the vertical separation aspects of relocating the primary filter?

For instance, should there be a check valve near the tank outlet?

Existing fuel piping is shown in blue, the proposed is in red.
