Good bet the 'Venturi' is simply a good hard build up of calcium carbonate and rust. These builds are often concentric in nature and is more constricted at the hottest point.

FWIW, I have found the longer they are left in place, the harder they become and can be come surprisingly difficult to drill.

Good luck with the next 60 miles. Is it the final 60 miles or just the distance to the next port

i forget. you must watch exhaust if coming steam from exhaust this is sign overheat, slow down. check temperature every hour to rubber hose if over 100°C danger slows down.

3.6 knots a steady headwind blowing at 10 knots.

Tachometer does not work but it feels like about 1100 rpm.

Temperature steady on 140, I will wait another hour and if the temperature has not moved I will add 100 rpm.

Someone must have removed the thermostat if it's that cool. (Assuming 140 degrees F)
Might have done so to try and prevent overheating. What a CF.

It might also be good to ensure that those rubber (?) pipes are not so close (touching?) the exhaust.
Especially with the risk of overheating.

Have a good sail and safe delivery.

Re: Perkins 4.154 mixing elbow blocked

We gave up and turned back.

Temperature just kept slowly climbing.

We’ve had a lovely run back under asymmetrical so can’t really complain, the boat sails very well with the right bits of cloth.

I am thinking I’ll leave that elbow in place and simply drill and tap in a stainless hose barb for now. Access to tools down here would be problematic and getting the elbow off would most likely destroy it.

Hope you get it sorted without too much drama!

I'm thinking...

Would it be easier and smarter simply to drill a hole and poke a bit of pipe through then glue it in place with one of those metal glues?

I suspect the elbow might be cast iron? I've never tried to tap a thread in cast iron, I feel like it might be difficult?
