What are you asking?

It sounded like most every 1gm10 I’ve been around.

Re: Need advice

That is reassuring though had my doubts being a previous 1gm10 owner the initial struggle to start resembled the time before my last engine broke

Re: Need advice

The delay in start could be caused by cold temperatures combined with long duration of layup.

Re: Need advice

I can send you a vid of a ysm8 running if you want to compare, not much different engine except its horizontal cylinder of course.
Agree with previous poster, long layup & cold temp can make for delayed start. Wasnt smoking when cold which is a good sign.
Good idea to take vessel out & run it at WOT for 1 hr after warmup time of course to check engine & gearbox.

Re: Need advice

I agree with the above comments. It was about a 6 second start which is a little long but it really depends on the age of the engine, the ambient temperature and the battery (and battery leads) condition.

If the engine is getting long in the tooth, it could possibly do with head recondition and an injector test. Both of these are straightforward jobs.

However it sounds OK as is to my ears.

If the cold start was say longer than 10 seconds with an ambient of 10+ degrees C and a good battery then further investigation is warranted (IMO).

The BIG but easy maintenance item on the 1GM10 is keeping the raw water cooling zinc replaced as required (i.e. regularly/yearly or sooner) and removing engine scale every 5 or 10 years unless used in freshwater only (again - straightforward maintenance item).
