Mercedes OM636

about to aquire a boat that has a Mercedes Benz OM636 that needs to be rebuilt, however im curious as to who else runs one of these, and if parts are available in the states....

i havent been able to come up with much, but its also the weekend and i havent been able to call any of the import garages to check for parts...

im a mechanic and have the ability to rebuild this engine, and the reason why im considering doing so, is that i wont have to change out propeller shafts or transmissions or mess with gear ratios and props..... keeps everything the same and keeps it simpler that way, provided i can find parts....

i have access to a universal 4 cylinder diesel of similar horsepower that may be a better oprion

im located in the pacific northwest of the US

Re: Mercedes OM636

They rebuilt one recently in England. Previous episodes show they tried to repair it but it still had issues so they went for the complete overhaul. Lots of good stuff there for you.
Good Luck
