Re: Life span of a Perkins 4-108

Our 107 must not be the norm. At 4500 hours it gave up the ghost. It did not smoke, started instantly, temp and pressure were at spec and most all the leaks were fixed.
A short run at full power (2450)one day and a cylinder gave it up. Huge amount of smoke and blow by. On tear down I found a broken ring. Sent the cylinder head in for ovhl and it needed all new valves. Injectors were done for also and need to be exchanged.
Pretty much a worn out sailboat engine.
