Ionian Engine Rebuild

Greetings all,
Does anyone know of an engineering firm in or around Preveza (Greek Ionian) who can rebuild diesel engines?
I’ve got a 1988 Perkins M60 Prima that needs a complete overhaul top to bottom, reborn, new pistons and rings, bearings etc etc.
Many thanks

Hello Deja Blue
Did you find anyone who could rebuild your engine? I have a similar Perkins that could use some work.
TY

Hi Blissful,
I did find a guy there who could rebuild but after comparing the cost benefits, decided to install a new engine - a bit more expensive but in the long run more reliable and fuel efficient etc.

Re: Ionian Engine Rebuild

Could you share the name of the firm or person for the rebuild?

I am considering this for the winter.

Also, how did the new engine go? I've heard it's hard to fit new engines in an old ship engine bay. Which engine did you get?

Re: Ionian Engine Rebuild

Hi Blissful,
His name is Vassilis but I don't have his direct contact details as he sub-contracts (or maybe used to) Ionion Marine. If you ask them, they should have his and others contact details.
The new engine is great, I'm really pleased with is, super quiet and very fuel efficient and the 115 amp alternator is the biz.

the new engine is Volvo D2-75. Fit perfectly with loads of room to spare. Slight mod on the sump to get the ZF 15 MIV gearbox shaft back under the engine.

Re: Ionian Engine Rebuild

Ah, sounds great. We may be speaking to the same guy, as my boat is currently also in Ionion Marine. I requested an engine inspection and they mentioned I could/should replace the engine.

To be frank, the only thing that leans me towards replacing is fuel efficiency, although reliability is also a good factor. That said, I guess the whole thing would cost 10k-20k, which is a lot of money right now. It's my first season yet.
