Fuel Storage Mistake

Hi - New to sailing so please help. I recently stored about 5 litres of fuel for the 5hp outboard below. Upon return a week later, about a litre had somehow leaked out. The bottle, although seemingly inferior in design, does not leak but I noticed it was a little compressed. I sealed both the large pouring hole as well as the small air hole. What am I doing wrong? Additionally could someone please advise what the correct percentage mixture should be between oil and petrol on a 2 stroke? Humble thanks.

The mistake wasn't just in using an inferior design container, but in storing it below. Gasoline fumes inside a boat are extremely dangerous and won't dissipate (much) unless you have a non-sparking blower arrangement. Remember to store your 2-stroke mix outside or somewhere where it vents overboard.

Most 2-strokes use a 50:1 mix ratio but the tolerances + and - are huge. Some models mights still use 25:1 and it would be best to look up the manual for your particular engine.
