Cummins QSB6.7 heat exchanger issue

This little fella sitting next to me is the heat exchanger from a QSB6.7. The mechanic working on cleaning it out accidentally punched one of the tubes out of the tube cluster. The exchanger is an aluminum sleeve with a bronze pressed core. The inside of the core in volcanized rubber holding all of the bronze tubes in place.

To get a new exchanger is $3,500.00 and 8 weeks delay. Unfortunately i can’t stay out of the water that long. I’m taking it to a radiator shop to see if he can fix it but I’m not super hopeful. Anyone have any tips, ideas, or a spare one of these kicking around?

The sleeve is PN 5289419
I believe the rest of the unit is 5289417

Re: Cummins QSB6.7 heat exchanger issue

Worst case, if a radiator shop can't put in a new tube, they can likely braze the hole in the end plates shut if there's no other damage. You'd have a very tiny reduction in cooling capacity, but it would be functional.

Unfortunately there is no end plate. As I said the OP the copper tubes are mounted into galvanized rubber. Not knowing the make up of the rubber, be it silicone, latex, Budel, or rubber, I am loath to seal it up with JB Weld or 5200 or something.

Vulcanized rubber. I'd go ahead and seal it up. Assuming that it has been out long enough to be dry, epoxy will stick. The worst scenario is that it doesn't stick, but gluing it up and trying it is cheap in time and money relative to $3,500 and eight weeks.
