Catalina 30 lift muffler

Does anyone know if lift mufflers are basically just hollow inside? I'm trying to replace one on our Catalina 30. I found one that has the same dimensions, except for the location of the incoming/outgoing hoses. It may be easier do modify/fiberglas the one I found, that way I can remove the old and replace with the new in one step. Either way, they'll be fiberglassing involved, since the old one has leaks and cracks.
Below are pictured the old and 'newer'.
Correct aftermarket is $360 vs this $36 find at the local chandlery.

This is the basic internal design but there are numerous variations on this theme. Click image for larger version

Thanks skipperpete. Looks like it's more than just a square chamber. I had a feeling there was some sort of baffle in there. I better keep looking.

You may want to search on the Catalina 30 forum, where, I believe, alternate muffler installs have been discussed.

If you're up for fiberglass work, I don't see why you couldn't just buy some fiberglass tubing to use for the ports and dip tube and make your own in whatever shape / size you want.
