I've been advised to get a baja fuel filter for my upcoming jaunt through Mexico (and beyond) and seen the shiny stainless one online, but the price was a bit of a shock.

Is it really worth $150 ?

Sounds a bargain for stainless, even aluminium.
In Australia the plastic version (mr funnel) cost that much and more

A Mr. Funnel from amazon is $19 for the small one and $45 for the biggest one. I have both and they work fine. The larger one has more a reservoir that is left in the funnel... and then I pour it in the smaller funnel to reduce that I put in the glass jar for parts cleaning.

Remember that these devices can only filter out water that has separated from the fuel. If you shake it up so the water and the fuel are uniformly mixed, the water will got through the filter with the fuel. You need to let the contaminated fuel sit a bit before filtering.

Hmmm... the biggest one with two fliters seems pretty fast to me but I haven't measured it. I only use the little one to reduce the residue or leftovers from the big one.

I have an ancient Baja Filter, which Ive owned for decades. Would I pay $150 for it again, ABSOLUTELY! (I dont recall what I originally paid for it)

This one is thick walled aluminum with 3 stages of filtration (fine, course, and hydrophobic). To my surprise the hyrdophobic filter is still working.

The newer, and less expensive, filter funnels dont appear to be nearly as robust as an original Baja Filter.

I dont know the flow rating for this filter, but its never been an issue, I can pour a jerry jug thru it at near full pour speed.

of late, with real diesel bought from real pemex stations i have no need for a filter before the tank. if you buy diesel from a portable source, you may need some sort of filtration. however as mexico has real diesel in real pemex stations , the need for a filter is open for discussion. i have not bought bad fuel since my arrival. but i donot buy diesel from portable containers, only from pemex.
racor filter for engine is a better purchase these days.
ps i have been here in mexico for 7 years, now.
