24v starter for Perkins 4-108

Hi,

I am trying to find a working model# for a 24v starter for a Perkins 4-108. i have been searching forums, google ebay, Facebook and Google groups to no avail.

i did find some info on a tractor forum that suggested the perkins 4-108 and Cummins 4bta starter are the same. however i cant verify this anywhere.

The Marine 4-108 starter is mounted on the right side of the engine under the injection pump. the industrial perkins 4-108 is mounted on the left side of the engine under the intake manifold. looks like the industrial/marine bellhousings are different and not compatible.

the cummins 4bta and 6bta starters look the same. I cant tell which way the mounting flange is clocked i.e. like industrial perkins or marine perkins. looks like there may be variations for these like the perkins. They have really nice high torque models of these.

i have a 24v system and trying to simplify my charging system.

Does anyone have a working part#

Thanks

10479600 24 vdc starter. You need to verify before ordering though, this was just a very cursory look.

Re: 24v starter for Perkins 4-108

Thank you.

It's very much appreciated. Looks like it checks out, after looking over the specs on the Delco Remy site. Lmao I have been looking for that starter for years. I had always searched for "Perkins 4-108 starter 24v" or something to that affect. Never found anything, and I have it set as an auto search on ebay. I should have thought about just searching for "Perkins starter".

For anyone else looking, it appears the 4-108 is a 12tooth Delco Remy 28mt starter. It has a SAE#1 mount, which is something I think I missed before. Once I searched under the starter family on that site it came up with a lot more options. There are some 12v 39mt starters that also look like they fit. 12v is 2.9kw, 24v is 4kw so there is a bit extra oomph in the 24v.

The SAE#1 mount has to be clocked the correct way also, which was messing me up, because I hadn't found anything verifying that info. It is the same starter as the 4bt, and Perkins 4-152.

Now that I have searched for this on the internet and loaded a few web pages, the internet or Google rubs my face in my failure to search or locate this starter. I have ad's for it popping up in my search list and several emails. Sigh! It is what it is, but at least it's one more boat issue figured out lol

You win the prize! You have found the standard industrial part that Perkins took off the shelf when they designed the engine. They didn't design the starter - they grabbed one that fits. Now they'll sell you one at a price that would make it appear thet they did design it, or you can find it for vastly less on the industrial market. My old Universal M-25 genset uses a Westerbeke starter at $1200 or Kubota at $62.50 off Amazon. Ditto on the throttle.
