Why wouldn't it work?
You have to put in more money, but you have a sailing vessel, so motoring should not be a priority.
Putting solar, a wind generator on the boat, huge ass battery pack and the recuperation of the enginges while sailing should be enough to keep it running.
When your are hesitant you keep a genset, but that is on board of many cruising cats.
So, let's wait how long it takes.
If you look at the Maverik 440 Hybrid, that's a full electric cat, with a genset as back up.
Seems to be working good.
