I, for one, am extremely interested in why you decided to switch to a monohull.

I currently own, and have for 27 years, a C&C 40. I am actively looking for a catamaran for cruising. It is proving to be a much more difficult task than I first imagined. Why change from a mono-hull to a multi? Better live aboard space, sailing flat, and if you keep one light; the thrill of speed under the right conditions. I don't consider one better than the other....just different. Some times different is fun.

Don't know about the Japanese version ; but the (American) Lockheed P-38 Lightning was certainly no fake.

Monohull, simply because that's what I'm used to and I prefer traditional. As far as the lottery prize, Ted Hood’s Expedition 50; it's capacities, range, construction, attention to detail and beauty. I saw this boat at the boat show">Annapolis Boat Show and it is first class all the way.

I have to dispute the 'traditional' tag when applied to monohulls. I'm pretty certain the Polynesians and other South Pacific people who first went sailing didn't think... 'I know, let's hang a load of lead off the bottom' when they needed to keep their canoes upright. They thought... 'I know, let's strap another canoe alongside. That'll keep it upright.'

Polynesians were not the first sailors. The oldest recovered boat hull was a mono hull. It's dated around 7000 to 8000yrs old. The oldest currently known boat is also a Mono hull and is dated around 9000yrs. Many other cultures through time used boats that were all mono. The first known double hulled boat was used around 500 AD.
But I imagine it was availability of materials, plus the sea's sailed that determined the original designs.
