Yes I always lusted after a prodder, but expensive option, plus drilling holes low in the bow to install the pad eyes for stays put me off, never had the courage to do that plus the stays cause a hassle with anchor bridles. I guess the late model FP prodders look handy in this regard, but understand they can crack underneath. The OP does not want to spend money on a prodder either.

Doesn't want to spend money but bought an expensive cat. (-;

Prodders are cheap enough if you can do a bit of the work and leg work yourself.
