Ok after asking about the Newick design the "Ama 35" and seeing the Trice may be more likely to still be around, I wonder if anyone can let me know if I am right to be lusting after that design for coastal cruising? Never sailed a tri but those Newick designs really have always caught my eye.. I've never had the cash flow to pursue them though.

Trice and Tricia were very early Newick designs primarily intended for day charterwork. If you don't mind very spartan accommodations, I don't see why one wouldn't work for coastal cruising.
If you have to bring all the comforts of shoreside living with you to the cruising lifestyle then none of the boats designed by Newick will meet your needs. If you get a thrill out of sailing at 18 knots in 3' of water with a minimalistic attitude, then the Newick designs may suit you.
