Favourite Catamaran Passagemaking & Cruising Blogs

Hi guys,

I realise that this thread may have already been done but after doing several searches the results I get back are not what I am looking for. I did find one that is primarily for monohulls but I am looking only for catamaran passagemaking cruising blogs.

I am not looking for blogs that just have lots of happy snaps and very little detail on the actual passagemaking.

I want the ones that contain lots of information about preparing and equipping the cat before departure and detailed information about condtions encountered during the passsage especially heavy weather encounters.

You may have noticed that I race on a fairly large monohull which is fantastic as she is very competitive but my true passion is catamarans and I plan to purchase one in the 40+ foot range then off I will go. No family committments and no kids to hold me back just a lack of enough of the green stuff at this stage but I'm getting there.

My very favourite catamaran blog is the one put together by Kathy and Joe Siudzinski on a Seawind 1000 catamaran named KatieKat.

The amount of detail in this blog is incredible and contains more than enough information for it to be published as a great reference book.

Here is the url for Katiekat Welcome to Siudzinski KatieKat

I'm sure that you will enjoy this blog and the wealth of information it contains if you are not already familiar with it.

I have got a few others up my sleeve but none of them come close to the detail in Katiekat's blog so I would be interested to collect some other recommendations.

All the best,
Steve

The most complete Catamaran Blog I'm aware of is:

s/v Ocelot Cruising the World

Almost a decade of continuous cruising with detailed information on passages, as well as provisioning, maintenance, planning, and cruising information for destinations encompassing the entire planet.

An equally complete monohull blog is:

S/V Billabong Blog

Between the two, just about any question which comes to mind will be well addressed..

I'll second that recommendation. I've had the pleasure of spending time with Joe and Kathy in Oz, NZ and CA and they're great folks. Joe has taken a very careful engineering approach to everything he's done with the boat. He's a big fan of sea anchors and has deployed his a couple of times making for good stories. But typical of his desire to understand the fundamentals he also got a strain gauge took measurements... You don't get that kind of data from your typical sailing blog. I gather he's turned much of his energy to his equally impressive electric car and alt energy experiments but the sailing blog is very rich and I think will reward a close reading.

I'll third it. We have stayed with Joe and he and Kathy with us on a number of opccassions, they are the lovliest people, and its always entertaining to discuss matters boating and engineering with Joe. When I was buying dilligara - I rang Joe many many times to discuss ideas and options.

Thanks for all the responses

Thanks guys for all of the responses so far especially Dave852 who has supplied us with heaps of links to blogs.

We are building up a nice little collection of blogs here which will be a good reference page for us.

I am working my way through them but as I said in my opening post I learnt a lot from all of the electrical and engineering details on Joe & Kathy's Katiekat site, which has also been further recommended by responses above, & how they and the Seawind 1000 dealt with heavy weather conditions so all of these new blogs are greatly appreciated.

Thanks again,

Steve
