Exit Only Sails Once Again
Exit Only is finally underway after a complete refit and associated walletectomy.
It took more than a year to complete the refit because my body needed a refit as well. I now sail without a gallbladder which is fine with me. My fractured hip socket is now history
We have tested all the new systems on board Exit Only, and all systems are go. We have also tested all the old systems on my body, and they seem to be all systems go as well.
We are now in the Abacos, and will be heading south toward Panama at a slow pace. No particular destination in mind, but Australia and Malaysia were two of our favorites during our circumnavigation, so we will see what the future holds.

Yes, congratulations! Hope all the new and old bits on both boat and crew work as expected.

Way to go, Dave! Hurry on back to Oz... maybe we will both survive long enough to have an old fart's catch up! Fair winds for all aboard.

Good on all of you, Dave. Our best to Donna, and hoping you have a super time, and that eventually, our paths will cross again.
All the best,
Ann

The boat gear is like new. My old bits are the only one in question.
I used to worry about how much to bet on the next throw of the dice. Now I wonder how many throws of the dice I have left!

Our goal is Australia, but I am not sure we will make it this year. We are breaking in a crew that includes a five year old and eight year old, and they are actually doing well. We are slow going it on our start up as we do a shakedown on all the new boat systems. So far all the new fancy systems and the old faithfuls are working well. It seems like we never stopped sailing, which is a little weird because I was doing the flying doctor thing for ten years.

Thanks. We were not planning on spending so much time in the USA. We regarded the USA as just another cruising destination, but taking care of elderly parents and having a daughter deciding to go to medical school took us out of circulation for quite a while.
Now that we are back on board, it feels like we never left. I think that is because the boat is so familiar to us from the previous circumnavigation. Setting sail felt like putting a well fitting glove back on my hand.
My brain switched over to sailing mode automatically, and the whole cruising things apparently is like riding a bicycle. Once you know how to do it, and when you are on a familiar boat, getting started again is easy. It would have been a lot harder if we were on a different boat.

Donna says hi!
The amazing thing this time is Donna and I don't get sea sick when sailing offshore. I guess some things get better with time.
Saying that I am glad to be sailing again is an understatement. Last year we were one week from setting sail, and I had to have gall bladder surgery. It was complicated and prevented us from setting sail. Three months ago I fell off the boat and blew out my hip socket, and that kept us from sailing for about ten weeks.
Now we are out sailing, and hopefully we got rid of all the physical disasters.
My son David did "The Acetabulum Rap" after I blew out my hip. I will see if I can put it on this entry. Click on the youtube link and enjoy!

Both the boat and the skipper are moving well once again. I had forgotten how well Exit Only sails.

We are all fired up for another adventure. My son and I worked hard on the refit, and we are ready To see the world once again on Exit Only.
