Endeavourcat 30 New owner

A life without my microwaved porridge was just to difficult to contemplate. So we must have a microwave and here are some progress pictures to show its future home.

I am still trying to find out how to make my “floating earth” inverter float with the boat when I connect it into the main board either by direct connection or feed in through the shore power socket. Getting some crazy results so far including reverse polarity, Life to Neutral @ 237v, Life to Earth @ 173v and Neutral to Earth @ 76v. Has anyone got a solution?

Be careful doing that a that locker is not properly vented for storing Gasoline (Petrol). In the state of Florida you can have your boat confiscated for storing gasoline in a compartment that does not meet USCG ventilation standards for gasoline storage compartments. Of course that assumes you haven't blown yourself up first. When I was 16 I arrived at the scene of a boat explosion about 30 minutes after it happened and was duly impressed by the power of a gasoline explosion. Unfortunately the captain was not impressed as what was left of him was already in a body bag.

Thanks Captain Bill. The locker is self draining and I was assuming that the Endeavourcat builders have made adequate provision as the LPG gas (propane?) bottles are also stored there. I moved the jerry cans from the starboard locker to the port because I will be installing an electric water heater next to the shower compartment ie in the starboard locker.

Those little self draining holes are totally inadequate for petrol. I have a propane locker that has a small drain but with no flap which meets the prpane requirements because it does not open to anything considered a compartment. USCG requirements for gasoline storage compartments require much more than ventilation than that. I don't know what the legal requirements are in Oz but you may want to check them out.

well...we did try that at first, but changed our mind and had em stored along the sides instead. We added a wooden plank as support and had 12 pcs 6 gallon.

Thanks Andreas. How far could you motor on 12 x 6 gallons of fuel? I am trying to figure out how many 6 gallon containers I can give to needy yachties.

I think we had a total of about 400 liter. We could motor for about 80-90 hours or so with the 40 2 stroke we had....don't really remember speed but around 4 kts

Our 93 endeavourcat30 had a 60 gallon fuel tank right under the port berth.

That is how it was layout from factory....previous owner replaced that tank with another water tank. The main fuel tank was moved aft under the captain seat.

We have a 40hp Honda on our Endeavour 30 and it burns .75 gal/hr at 2800 rpms at 5.25-5.5 knots. Ours is 1994 with a 75 gallon fuel tank. The water tank is also 75 gallons. We are hauling around 2 bicycles, a hookah system, Honda generator, 2 33lb anchors, 130ft of 5/16 chain, and too many tools, clothes and too much food. If you empty the boat it becomes a 7.5 knot rocket. I would think the high thrust outboard would run around 2000 rpm to do the same. Make sure to keep the bottom clean.

That outboard should have NMEA 2000 output which will hook up to the chartplotter and give you real time fuel consumption plus track total fuel used.

Thanks again folks. I’m going to work on 3 litres/hour @ 2000rpm doing 5 knots calm waters and see how that pans out.

Was chatting with an Endeavor owner who pointed something out that I'd like to get some feed back. With the motor lifted and having only plastic thru hull fittings below the waterline there is no path for a lightning strike to go direct to the water.
In this case the lightning strike went to the transducer epoxied to the inside of the bottom of the hull and blew it up creating a hole in the hull resulting in that side of the boat sinking at the dock.
So my question is how could that have been avoided when the design of the Endeavor 30 does not have the engine permanently mounted in the hulls like most cats?

The Endeavour 30 has a great lightning protection system. All the chain stay plates and the mast have 2/0-3/0 wire running to them from a ground plate that is about 4x10x1/2 inch plate on the starboard hull. Don’t paint it. We have been in plenty of lightning with no problem but still throw the portable electronics in the oven.
