G’day again friend. We have had to escape the Melbourne winter and take the car home to tropical North Queensland. Consequently the upgrades have temporarily been suspended. We have replaced both sails with new manufactured by well known local sailmaker Tony Bull. I have put on new davits to replace the old ones which were falling apart. We will mount 2 large solar panels on the davits and two more will go on top of the bimini. We have fully enclosed the cockpit which has made a huge improvement to Purrfect’s accommodations. Back for more when the weather improves.

Thought I’d post a few pictures to show progress. Intent to sail off into the Wild Blue Yonder in March.

Will get some more pictures of “bathroom” renovation shortly.

Have now fitted 4 x 380w solar panels and 2 Victron 100/50 Smart controllers.

Was concerned about sunlight coming through Sunbrella bimini so painted the canvas with Dulux house paint. Very happy with result, time will tell if it was a good move.

Cheers from Downunder.

Hey Fishguy, have you located and bought an Endeavourcat30? Here are some pictures of the bathroom upgrade. I will be making new doors for the cupboard behind the basin. It started with having to replace a non-functioning SaniLoo waste system which is now also no longer legally accepted in some Australian states. Decided to remove the hand basin for better access. The inferior plywood was dust between two thin layers of laminate and I shovelled it into a bin. That required a structural rebuild. We put in a 25 litre Vetus holding tank to comply with the regulations and replaced all the hoses. Added some extra so I can freshwater flush the whole seawater system including the fore and aft deck wash hoses and use the seawater pressure pump as an additional bilge pump. Also fitted seawater strainer so fish don’t clog up the toilet pump impeller requiring a total dismantling. Small fish, big job.

No, finally had a look at one and realized the cockpit was too small for what we had in mind. The binacle just eats up too much space in such a small cockpit. Upwards and onwards. Good sailing with yours!

Re: Endeavourcat 30 New owner

Hi Endeavourcat30 owners and other well-informed fellow cruisers. Can someone please tell me what type and size of packing is used in the rudder shaft bearings of a 1992 Endeavourcat 30? I have a minor but annoying leak on the port side and it’s as tight as I can get it. I would like to have the correct packing on hand when I remove the top nut.

Re: Endeavourcat 30 New owner

Hi folks. The original lazy jacks on my Endeavourcat30 were led through small blocks on the spreaders. A PO, unknown which one, changed that to two small blocks mounted higher on the mast above the spreaders. It seems to me that raising the main would be easier with the original system as the battens are much less likely to be caught under the lazy jacks. Can anyone enlighten me, should I change back to the spreaders?

Re: Endeavourcat 30 New owner

If your lazy jacks are adjusted and spaced properly they should not catch the battens. Some time spent on a windless day adjusting the lines will be well worth it. I would not connect them to the spreaders. The endeavourcats originally had the Dutchman flakingn system I believe...

Re: Endeavourcat 30 New owner

When we bought our Endeavourcat 36, the original lazy jacks for the main were run through blocks on the mast. The blocks are about 3/5ths of the way up the mast from the mast step.
We are the second owner of Miss Grace. We DO have two flag halyard blocks on each spreader.
Is that where your's were run, through the inner flag halyard blocks?
The first thing we did to our boat was replace the original lazy jacks/sail cover with a Doyle Stack Pack.
Our boat has a full coverage soft bimini, and even with pulling the boom to one side it took acrobatics to get the sail cover on or off.
We were able to use the original blocks on the mast when installing the Doyle Stack Pack.
We usually slack the leeward lazy jack when hoisting the main, as the battens have hung up on the lazy jacks once or twice.
I honestly don't know if running the lazy jacks through the spreader blocks is a good idea, but my instinct tells me it is not.

I know what you mean when describing the gymnastics required to stow the main. Whilst on the move I just tie the sail onto the boom with some webbing and I only stow it properly when we are not going to be hoisting it for more than a few days. The original video states that the lazy jacks were attached to the spreaders and I’m inclined to put them back there. However, I thought to seek some advice from actual owners who may have moved them to the mast. Was it an improvement?

Re: Endeavourcat 30 New owner

Well, I don't know because our lazy jacks were always run through our mast blocks. I always wondered about the two blocks under each spreader. They are very little. I don't know how much of a load they'd take. I always just supposed they were flag halyard blocks, although there were no lines, flag halyards or anything else, run through them when we acquired the boat. It seems to me that four flag halyards are a bit much for a boat this size, so maybe they ARE supposed to be for lazy jacks.
So you have a factory video for your boat? Ours is a 1998 Endeavourcat 36. I wonder if there's a video available for ours.

There are a few videos of different Endeavourcat on YouTube.

Re: Endeavourcat 30 New owner

Thanks! We had never seen the Endeavourcat30 factory video.
Perhaps my youtube searches were too specific, ie "ENDEAVOURCAT36"
It was very helpful, and I do see where it mentions the lazy jacks being run through the spreader blocks. We might try that, although it may not work as well with the Doyle Stack Pack.
By the way...We are in need of a bug screen for the opening ports on our 36. Yeah, one of ours sleeps with the fishes in New Bedford Harbor.
Have you ever tried to source one?
We've been hitting all the consignment shops from New England to Florida, where we are now, to no avail. We don't know the original manufacturer either, which would certainly help.

Hi mate. We still have all our bug screens but a new one shouldn’t be too hard to get. Have you tried https://www.lewmar.com/node/11248 ? Our boat is the Endeavourcat30 so it may have different ports than yours. Cheers, Bazza.
