Info from the ARC is almost totally meaningless for cats for several reasons...

1) They take no account of whether you have downwind sails. So a cat that just uses genoa and main gets the same handicap as the same cat that has, say, a gennaker, spinnaker or even a Parasailor.


2) The ARC allows motoring. Motoring attracts a very severe penalty. How severe depends on the weather conditions but motoring time is multiplied by a factor between 1.2 and 2. So final results depend very much on how much a boat motored and dosen't show how quickl the boat was when sailing.
