I just closed down my business and bot a catamaran. I have offered Crewed charters on other yachts for over 30 years and now, for the second time, I have bot a boat to live and cruise around the islands. I will do occasional charters, but mostly looking for business and investment opportunities in the Caribbean for the next 1-2 years.
I should be ready to assume duties as your Captain and Charter coordinator about the same time you will be ready to embark on this new chapter in your life.
By the way, a common "rule of thumb" for yacht maintenance and management is 10%-20% of the cost of the boat per year. Thus, if your boat is 1.5mil, expect to pay $150,000-$300,000/year, split about in half between management (Captain and Cook) and maintenance. Thus, you will need to charter 15-25 weeks per year to break even on a cash flow basis. (18 year straight line depreciation is the accepted norm for your situation and mine.)
Send me your email and I'll keep you posted on my blog and then you can contact me when interviewing for a Captain!
Good luck and fair winds!
Capt. Mark, S/V Sanctuary
