But you're still in Holland right? Wait until you sail the tropics for a decade full time instead of typical weekend sailing and you'll find all those crazy things make sense after all

Well, brands are not stupid and they make the interiors more sailors like and also know that wives have a big saying on the choosing of the boat regarding what they like, specially in what regards galleys and cruising storage. If you live for extended periods on a boat, a condo interior is great and that's why cats have lately such a big increment in what regards sales.

Not having a hair drier is odd, I mean regarding women. I always had one on mine. Women have long hairs, at least on my family, and as they take a sea bath everyday, sometimes at sun set, there is no way of drying their air before going to bed.

Maybe your friends don't cruise that much, or the water is too cold for having bath?

Believe it or not I even have since last year a small ironwork for clothes. For me it is just more ballast but my wife was so happy with it that I give it to her. Wives like to dress properly from time to time, at least some.

Polux.. for me a travel iron is an essential on 'my' boats.. cannot stand the 'cruiser crumple' look.. guess that's down to being ex Royal Navy.

Yes, but with only a few exceptions, the sailboats here have either already been cruising or are about to leave. Mostly the well known Rondje Atlantic, but still.

Dutch women (and men) are probably too practical for all them crazy things

Well the women are for sure.. spent a winter on the town quay in Andratx, Mallorca with a Dutch couple on a Cheoy Lee 48 next to my Longbow 31..
Every morning he'd be sitting on his scuppers sniffing my bacon, eggs and mushrooms cooking.. so I'd invite him down and he'd be the Human Rocket..
But hell.. she was feeding the poor guy Bird Food with milk.. no sugar.
Boy am I glad I'm not Dutch.. a bird food and sauerkraut diet... YUUCK..

I don't know why the good man was unable to feed himself (if you're fit to sail, you're able to cook yourself any breakfast you like, methinks), but ... wth is bird food? Bread? That can be good ... Not with sugar, but it goes well with bacon and eggs. Yummy!

But I don't think I'll be sailing around for a decade ...

I want to take my time enjoying the Spanish and Portuguese coast, and if still afloat and happy, do the puddle jump.
But I'll probably end up doing the Rondje as well, cos I'll have to go back and work

It kind of reminds me of English & Irish pubs that are in in cities around the world. Dark wood interior with poor natural lighting and random items scattered around the room to create the "feel", so depressing.

We have a hairdryer on board, but don't own an iron, not even at home. So whats the point?



hoppy nails it but the interior shown isn't a particular bad example, I have seen much worse when visiting cruising neighbours.

But obviously many prefer to live in a heeling basement pub.

And some off us are happy to live on anything that floats.. as long its seaworthy and habitable (dry and clean).. don't really care what anyone else thinks about it..

Fully agree on the "anything that floats" thing. However this thread seems to be about taste and choice.

I prefer a nice liveable interior. The exterior is just what the neighbours complain about: my little stumpy catamran spoiling the view
