Wooden hull for long term cruising

I've got a cold molded 45 ft yacht. It's easy to repair. I've coated it in 5x layers of wests epoxy. Its sealed from worm. It's just as easy to fix as fibreglass. 3mm veneers diagonally planted. Glued in with wests epoxy. Easiest and best thing ever.

A true cold molded vessel has very little in common with a wooden boat neither in design, structure nor materials

Yeah I ignore the fact I'm using timber whilst repairing the hull. I pretend its fibreglass.

You only need three items to survey a wooden wood; your nose, your eyes and an ice pick. The ice pick is essential IMO. OK, yes, you do need a light and your hands as well .

I think that's probably a great point. Having a wood boat in good condition from the beginning has to make things much easier. Nip the problems in the bud from the beginning, and don't let them spread.

I've always wondered about the ice pick technique - is there any chance that damages the wood in a way, or does it just swell back up with no concern?
