We live full time on a 40 year old timber trawler with 7000litres of the stuff and zero diesel smell.
So you can make other people sick from your exhaust when you go by. Nice idea!

Did you have a little cry as you smashed that out?

No smoke, no diesel smell, no wash, engine rarely gets taken over 1200rpm

Ventilate the engine room daily and constantly if possible. If you still smell diesel then you have a leak. It could also be the residue from an old leak however small. Get a good mechanic to find it and clean, clean/scrub the area where the leak was with a good smelling soap like pine based or orange based products.

Re: Wife gets sick with Diesel smell??

Don't know what your budget is. New boat recommend Seawind 1160 Lite (38 ft) with dual Yamaha 25 HP high thrust option. Older is Seawind 1000 or 1000 XL with dual Yamaha 9.9 HP high thrust. Also Maine Cat 38 with dual outboard.

And I've owned and run a lot of boats with outboards from 8 HP two strokes to a 250 HP Yamaha SHO. Contrary to precious comment, have never smelled exhaust from any of these. And the comment about gasoline tankage onboard being not safe? BS, if done properly, and the boat builders - the same as auto manufacturers - have figured out to mitigate that risk.

My wife had the same problem. I starting using a 25% 60% soy diesel with regular diesel. It smells like popcorn. It is much harder to find now day. Try and put the soy diesel in first. if you can't shake your boat to blend the two together. We love the stuff.

Re: Wife gets sick with Diesel smell??

Definitely trade her in for a cat. They are very independent and cost way less to maintain. They don’t care how much you drink or what time you got in last night. Oh wait, did you mean a Catamaran?
