Re: Transom Mount Transducer mounted inside the hull in a bed of 'jelly'

G'day Captains.

Can anyone advise me as to whether the Downvu functions on the likes of Raymarine Dragonflys and Lowrance Elites DownScan still works properly? I have been advised (by a dealer) that it won't.

dannyjoh - I have the same problem. My Hawkeye works fine over the side, but when Installed - a no-go. Returning to the store for a refund. I need recommendations on a different brand as well.

Re: Transom Mount Transducer mounted inside the hull in a bed of 'jelly'

I have a transom type inside the hull and it almost works. Sometimes works fine but most of the time does not. Epoxied in. I tried it in a pool of water inside the hull and worked fine. I am did not getting back the gel coat prior andv wonder this would help.

I used marine tex to bed mine with and it's been working fine.

I didn't work at all when you just set it down in there. Once I put the marine tex down it worked.

It's just that it's a lot harder to get the orientation right, and to have them stay in place.

So yes, I believe you can do as you suggest. Make sure you are shooting thru solid fibreglass (I'm pretty sure all Westsail's are solid hulls), and make sure their are no voids in the silicone. Once it's working well you could epoxy the transducer in to place for a more secure fitting.
Can you please explain your installation process? Thanks

5 year old thread. :>)

They can be mounted in epoxy or silicone inside the hull, but must have no air bubbles etc between the face and the hull. People usually sand the hull flat and smooth at that spot.
Also: won't work on cored hulls.
