There is an excellent book on Amazon : “Are you ready? Let’s go!”, it just be update and is full of advices on everything like you looking for,. It’s a big book of i think 500 pages.

If you have the skills required to refurbish the vessel (and the hull/rigging is solid) plus accessories to wholesale marine pricing, then get the boat you really want. If you are in a hurry to cruise and lack the skills needed to understand and repair the vessel of choice then get the best condition vessel you can afford and skip the hassle of "the project".

I'd go with a bristol C34 and go sailing with new-to-me boat. There will plenty of fixing up ahead.

I decided to stop looking at boats that are projects…

You guys are right that I’ll get some sort of project just trying to buy the best maintained 30 year old boat 😎
