Open 60 - 35 knot speed!!!

Just watching Alex Thomson on the Hugo Boss on YouTube race highlights. He states he reached 35 knots....holly cow.

Those boats are built for speed and they do not disappoint.

Yes. Momentary speeds are impressive and so are their sustained +20kts speeds.

I wonder what their minimum comfortable speed is in similar conditions - just in case one day I get one of them, chop off the top of the stick (Tanguy style ;-) and go cruising ...

Re: Open 60 - 35 knot speed!!!

It looks too intense for too long in the Open 60 races. I started watching because it has been awhile since I watched the keel walk on the Hugo Boss. Just when you think you saw most things you see something is hard to believe.

There is a keel walk and a mast walk as the Hugo Boss is laid on it side.

Just incredible!!!

rigging a comfortable hammock on the inside would probably be a good route for cruising... you'd surely have the beam!

Re: Open 60 - 35 knot speed!!!

The noise from the foils was pretty unpleasant. Did not know they did that but heard it in an interview with one of the skippers recently. Apparently even the noise cancelling ear muffs were no help. And the noise starts at a mere 14 knots. Yikes.
