Re: HELP ME, need moorage in SoCal

Kind of a catch 22 for you. Most SoCal marinas will require the survey, insurance, and inspection before letting you in, and the seller will only take an offer with the slip.

That said, we've always had good luck driving directly to the marina and talking face to face with them.

If it's about the price to you, Don CL gave you some of the ones that came to my mind, also there's California Yacht Marina Wilmington, and someone once told me Chula Vista Marina was reasonable.

Re: HELP ME, need moorage in SoCal

Thanks Iron E,

This is not my first catch 22. My real Problem is time. I don't want to leave the seller dangling while I sort this out.

My last option is to put the boat on the hard, get on as many waiting lists as I can and wait it out.

If anyone knows of a good boatyard please let me know.

Thank you

Re: HELP ME, need moorage in SoCal

Between Oxnard and SD, the only full time mooring fields I am aware of are:
-Newport Beach: You need to buy them from another private seller, check the log for adverts.
-SD: As you already stated, that is a 1 year wait, but that mooring field and possibly one other I can think of are in the direct line of fire of boat wakes and get wicked rolly. The Americas Harbor, much more protected, will be several years wait because people rarely leave.

Slips between Oxnard and SD:
As others have already noted your best bets are in San Pedro/LA and possibly the Ventura/Channel Islands areas. You may also have some luck in SD and especially in the South Bay such as Chula Vista.

Slip access can be tough. We waited for 7 years to get in to a 50 ft slip within a small marina we liked in Coronado. That is an extreme case though.

Be persistent and it will eventually work out for you.

Re: HELP ME, need moorage in SoCal

Thanks, Sdpaddler50

Persistence is my middle name. All the advise from you guys on this forum is showing me I'm moving in the right direction. Thats all I need to get to my dream.

You would think that with so many marinas having waiting lists out to a year that someone would find a way to capitalize on such demand for a service.

Thank you,

Mike G

Ventura is only a few miles north of Channel Islands harbor, and I see several consistently empty slips in the size range you’re looking for. Try Ventura West Marina and Safe Harbor in Ventura.

Re: HELP ME, need moorage in SoCal

Thanks mhay61,

I just contacted both marinas asking if they have an open slip available.

Here's hoping for the best.

Thank you,

Contact San Diego Mooring Co., 4980 N Harbor Dr #101, San Diego, CA 92106
619 291-0916.
They have numerous mooring sites in SD Bay and have a wait list but it's likely they have available sublets which could be a temporary help. I've moored with them for years and started with a sublet and eventually got my own mooring in my desired location, still with them.

The OP noted they have a 1yr waiting list after I posted this same suggestion.

Re: HELP ME, need moorage in SoCal

How about looking outside the area. If you can move the boat north to the SF bay area you should be able to get a slip right away. Solves the problem but a bit of a bash to get here.

Re: HELP ME

Thanks Chilly1,

I just sent San Diego Mooring co an email asking if they have any sublets that will tide me over.

Thank you,

Thanks, NorthCoastJoe

Taking into account the cost of traveling that far It would be worth it to pay the 987.00 per month that King harbar wants for their open slip.

Thank you,

Re: HELP ME, need moorage in SoCal

If you can’t afford $1000 a month in SoCal for a slip, you can’t afford a boat in SoCal.

Sorry to harsh, but that is a really good price for that area.

Re: HELP ME, need moorage in SoCal

Thanks SailingHarmonie,

I can afford the slip at 1000.00 per month. The reason I can afford the slip is because I don't pay top dollar if I have a better option. This whole tread is about my finding options.

I can't tell you how many times I've bought something at what my research made me think was a good deal only to realize there was a better deal to be had.

Thanks,

Mike G

I second Ventura Harbor. Great location and harbor IMO.
