Re: Flush Deck Boats Illustrated Guide
So the Endurance 35 has already been mentioned. However, what about the Endurance 37, Endurance 38 and Endurance 44?
Then there is the sturdy Warrior 40, a real ocean going vessel.
But my favourite has a mini doghouse up front on an otherwise clear deck and is the Saltram Saga 40. But since I own one then I am completely biased.

It is good to mention FD boats.
It is MUCH BETTER to post some photos and description (comments, opinion, specs, links) to them in this Illustrated Guide.
Since you own a Saltram Saga 40, post what you can about her. Or about the others you know and like.

Re: Flush Deck Boats Illustrated Guide
Here is another one, Tradewind 33/35 which falls into the category of flush decked boats and also is not coffin like down below as someone suggested for boats under 40 foot.....

Re: Flush Deck Boats Illustrated Guide
Saltram 40
(Also known as Saga 40)
Steady's NOTES:
1. Notice this flush deck and how the inflatable dinghy fits on the foredeck. This is one of the advantages of a flush deck design.
2. This particular boat appears to have been very nicely finished in the interior.
3. The following description and photo is from a current sale listing by a CF member and the complete listing in the CF Classifieds has much more information and many more good photos. Here is a link to the sale listing:

I disagree: I have an Ericson with roof and HANDRAILS. I sail offshore with it & when I have to move from the cockpit to foredeck & back, handrails + harness is a must for me. I remember a squall in the middle of the night (Half way between Beaufort & USVI) with a problem with the roller furling line... I was happy to hold on to the handrails on the roof as I moved forward even though I have life lines mounted flush on the deck & a harness Cheers !

Re: Flush Deck Boats Illustrated Guide
I have to say I love these threads you are starting Steady! Especially this one. I've been a fan of flush deck boats for a long time. In fact so much so that we bought one! I'm not sure why they're not more popular. The have a salty retro look & maximize interior volume which adds buoyancy where you want it which significantly aids the righting moment. Renowned boat designer Doug Hylan has drawn & built several flush deck designs which he says are simpler to build, less prone to leaks & ultimately stronger structurally. Here's a listing of a sister ship to our Scout 30 which we've had for 16 years & love dearly.

Dear SCOUT30,
Thanks very much for your good contributions to this thread (and others) and for adding your support and photos or links and tips to boats as you do.
I have often looked at your Avatar and wondered about your boat, but did not know it was a particular model called a "Scout 30."
Now I know. And, looking at the photos I saw via the link you provided, I LIKE what I see.
I love the plumb bow, two tone paint, and wood pilothouse!
I happen to like the styling and really see how roomy that boat appears. It looks like it would be a very comfortable motor cruiser. And, that pilothouse or helm station is very nice.
I also see a bit of similar styling to the Stone Horse 23 boat (similar sheer, flush deck, ports, paint scheme). Something from a different era in boat design, but something that appeals to me. I will include a photo of a Stone Horse for comparison.
I will post a few photos of a Scout 30 below, because the sale listing link will die in time. Unfortunately the sale listing has photos which are in the wrong orientation (SMH) and I will leave those for viewing via the link.
I also invite you to post some photos of your own boat too. I hope you will, as I would enjoy seeing it. Or a link to an online gallery if you have one on CF or elsewhere.

Thanks Steady. Our Scout is pretty much identical to the boat listed on YachtWorld. Here's a link to the Scout 30 Facebook page for anyone that's interested.

Re: Flush Deck Boats Illustrated Guide
There are a lot of Ted Brewer designs that have a flush deck. His bigger pilot house cutters are pretty amazing boats:

Re: Flush Deck Boats Illustrated Guide
Pearson 40
Distinctive features?
Flush Deck
Whale Shape to hull
Keyhole bulkhead in saloon
IOR hull Shape, wide with pinched stern.
Most boats are 1979, 1980
Average Asking Price = $49k
Asking Price Range = $32k to $69k
DRAFT = 4' 3" Centerboard up
Additional Specs, Equipment and Information:
Specs
Builder: Pearson
Designer: Bill Shaw
Keel: Centerboard
Dimensions
LOA: 39 ft 11 in
Beam: 12 ft 6 in
Minimum Draft: 4 ft 3 in
Maximum Draft: 9 ft 5 in
Displacement: 22800 lbs
Ballast: 9500 lbs
Headroom: 6 ft 4 in
Possible Negatives?
Balsa Cored hull
Lack of portlights may make it seem dark in the saloon.
From Sale Listings:
When the P40 was introduced in 1977 it was loaded with features that broke the Pearson mold. The hull was balsa cored for strength and insulation (she is cool inside when it is hot outside and warm, when it is cold outside), with a unique whale-shaped underbody and a deep centerboard. The hull shape was similar to Ted Hood’s centerboard boats of the time. This boat only draws 4' 3" with the board up. .
The deck, however, is the P40’s most recognizable feature. It is a racy and sexy flush deck with built in anchor locker and very large deck hatches -
--------
The Pearson 40 was a limited production vessel (only 71 built) that was designed by Bill Shaw to be a comfortable, shoal-draft cruiser that would also do well in club.racing. Her whale-body, centerboard design is good for the Chesapeake Bay and other shoal waters.

Re: Flush Deck Boats Illustrated Guide
I am surprised someone has not mentioned the CSY 37. I have always thought that design had a lot going for it for compact utility.

Good suggestion.
Post some more info about that boat, specs, Opinion, etc.
It also reminds me of another boat it resembles, but my old brain cannot recall the name at the moment. I saw one in Australia with a junk Rig. Darn, I fuzzily recall the name, a designers name I think, began with a "W." Anyone think of that one?

Re: Flush Deck Boats Illustrated Guide
Tanzer 22
A solid, 1970's boat from Canada, available in both keel and keel/centerboard versions. They are "big" 22's (22 ft 6" actually). I sailed one of these around northern Lake Michigan for seven years, often to places where everyone else was on larger boats, and always felt like the boat was more solid than I was. They are fast and fun to sail. You sit close the the water. Conventional masthead rig. There was an active user group when I was sailing mine. Great boat.
