Catalina 25 v Hunter 25.5

I am also looking for comments on a Catalina 25 vs a Hunter 25.5. In the 25 foot range we have quite a few of these in on the market. I would welcome thoughts/comments on differences and peculiarities between them. We live on the Gulf coast, and looking to do some weekend sailing, nothing longer than that (right now ) My wife and 10 y/o are just starting to get into sailing. I have a couple years on them, but its been about 15 years since I stepped on a boat larger than my Hobie 16.

I raced on both several times and nearly bought a 25.5, but ended up with something a little bigger with an inboard diesel and enclosed head. The 25.5 felt bigger than the Catalina 25 and I liked the fact that it had a real toerail for smacking into slip pilings. Every 25.5 I looked at had fairly significant blister problems and gelcoat cracking and the 25's only very minor blistering. As I recall, the cockpit seemed bigger on the Catalina 25, but I may be wrong. Catalina has strong customer support on their older boats and the Catalina may be easier to sell when the time comes. Always compromises. Enjoy the search.
