If needed, this is further proof that it's the sailor, not the boat, that matters.

The second pic is a Cal-25 sister to my now-Cal 2-25. Note pilothouse. This boat circumnavigated by a young couple that had 2 kids along the voyage.

Re: Best Pilothouse Sailboat?

I happened across this last weekend. I don't know what make this is but it definitely has a pilot house. It hangs out in the Elliot Bay Marina.

It seems to have a little of everything.

I like it!

Looks conservative SA ;-) and grand protection from elements. Let me guess Canada or Alaska.

Some look rather home made, some look like well-designed add-ons (like hard dodgers), and some are truly part of the original design. Relative advantages?

No mention of the 'Southerly' range of craft, it seems. UK built, pilot house and swing keel.

I'm hoping to upgrade from my jeanneau 29.2 to an older Southerly 105, with a view to doing the Rhine/Danube and back to Black Sea

A good one from France is the Boreal, from 44 to 60 feets, It is an aluminium sail boat with a lifting dagger-board. An other one will be the Alubat OVNI Evolution 47 that has a pilot house option, mainly for people sailing in cold countries and there are more and more of those ones.
You can get more information on the BOREAL or ALUBAT web sites and for the ALUBAT OVNI EVOLUTION at http://marc-hanami.blogspot.fr/2013/...onic-name.html.
Best
Marc.
