Beneteau Oceanis 36CC specs?

Can't seem to get some specs I'm looking for and I'm hoping some owners know. I've looked through various sailboat reference websites, sailboatdata, and the owners manual.

What is the height at the waterline without the mast? (I'm trying to see what the bridge clearance would be demasted.

Also, what are folks getting in terms of range (assuming calm waters) out of a tank of diesel?

Finally, I keep seeing this boat listed with a 1.52m (4.9') draft. But then when looking at the specs listed on a seller's page it might list a 1.58m (5.2') draft. Does anyone know what it is in reality?

Any other specs you want to share I would appreciate it!

I'm thinking about this boat for exploring canals (French, Scotland's Caledonian, US Great Loop...).

Re: Beneteau Oceanis 36CC specs?

I believe that Beneteau offers several keel designs for the Oceanis series.
I believe the 4'9" is one of them......5'6" is another...and finally, a 7' something is the third.

However, I saw a 4'9" version of one out of the water once....and while the keel draft was 4'9".....the rudder draft was around 5'...that doesn't change across the line...which makes the 4'9" draft kinda impractical.

Ful consumption depends on the type of engine installed, but figure about 1/2 gal/hour burn at cruise rpm.....which will give you around 6 knots. You can do the math from there.

Ahhh ok so the rudder hangs lower than the keel. That is an odd design choice. Now I understand the discrepancy.

Any idea of the water line to top of the boat demasted height?

Re: Beneteau Oceanis 36CC specs?

I'm not 100% sure about the B 36cc air draft but I believe it is around 48' above the waterline.

Yes, the deep rudder is an odd choice for a 4'9" draft boat, I would not have known that had I not seen it out of the water.

I can't speak for the B 36cc, but the 43 is a great sailing boat.

I believe the B 36cc has a 40 gal fuel tank, so figure about 35 gallon useable fuel. This should give you around 70 hrs run time at 6 knots...or around 400 mile range. This is just a guestimate on my part, knowing what I know.

You can always carry extra fuel in plastic tanks on deck to extend your range.

I appreciate the air draft figure. I think I've seen that number too, perhaps in the owners manual. The tricky number I'm actually looking for is the air draft without the mast.

I think around 5' to the top of the cabin would be a reasonable guess, but that would not include a dodger nor bimini, which can add another 3-4', so maybe 10' to be on the safe side.

Thank you very much!

You don't happen to know if the rudder is easily lifted do you?

parts of the french canals can get sketchy from what I've read.

This is the rudder on my boat.....it can't be lifted or otherwise be moved, and I think the 36CC is likely to be similar.

Thank you, that is very illustrative. Well, I suppose it is what it is. Too bad the Southerly 38's are so damn pricey.

Re: Beneteau Oceanis 36CC specs?

Hello all,
Some misinformation here.
The beneteau 36cc was only available with one keel design I believe.
The exact draft varies depending upon the amount of of stores, how equipped, amount of fuel , water etc.
After many years, including multiple measurements on the hard and by means sounding lead( very useful in the event of grounding to determine the best course to deeper water) as well dual electronic sounding systems the true draft is very clear.
The 36CC should not be confused with other beneteaus, of which many did have optional keels.
Mine measured very close to 4’9”dry although dry included a fisher panda genset ( about 500lbs. estimated, installed; exhaust system, fuel system, electrical and controls) and Aircon installed in the engine compartment.
The only way the rudder could have a deeper draft than the keel would be absurd trimming when afloat or incorrectly blocking on the hard.
The rudder appears to have have possibly 5” less draft than keel, that said, I don’t have exact measurements but have observed it many times due to my policy of hauling at least every other year to renew anti fouling etc. Also many pictures of the above have been accumulated over the years.
5’2” keel draft was only possible when fully provisioned, and I do mean fully, for extended cruising.
Sorry, I don’t have a figure for the air draft without the mast, in my case the stern arch would be the controlling factor. The figure could be approximately arrived at by means of scaling of the profile. Sailboat data possibly?
Best of luck in all things to all !

Thank you very much for you're indepth reply and correction of information, I sincerely appreciate it!
This makes me feel much better and helps clear up how that couple was able to take it through the French canals. Too bad it's still too deep to travel through the Canal Du Midi but that's ok.
