Do we hate the Beneteau Oceanis 36CC?

So I am standing in front of one at the marina and it doesn't look *that* unseaworthy .. In fact it doesn't even look like a Benny. Is it an exception to the "buy a Bennetau you die rule" maybe from a time where they weren't plastic death traps ??

Beneteau's are fine.. had a 321 and 331 Oceanis.. they're like any other boat.. only a death trap if you push the limit to far..

Never mind just saw a moody 38 shortly afterwards and it looks actually rather similar.. So that's the one I like and the Bennetau is just a copy ;-)

iv done thousands of miles in several bennies and never had a problem ,on the contry find them good all round vessals,bit hard ,hard on the wind but besides that loved them, the
cc one of the better ones

This forum is mostly American, and there's a lot of ranting against European boats going on here. Beneteau's are like many other "low cost" boats, but they are not death traps. Bolted on fin keels are the issue. Even Oyster had issues with it. You can read a lot about how to inspect your keel attachment and structure, and you should be diligent about it. Negligence is the death trap, not Beneteau. Watch La Vagabonde on YouTube, they've sailed from Italy to Tahiti on a Beneteau!

Did you read about what happened to the couple that La Vagabond is about? Holy cow I'm so jealous! They got upgraded to a catamaran. I don't know any of the details but it looks like a wonderful story. Something about a French company gave them a million-dollar cat. I'm not sure about that value,,,, anyway they got a new boat! Yeah I'm so jealous!!! But good for them!

Only done 40,000NM across most of the oceans. Never had a gear failure. First boat of choice for me.

The la vagabonde couple cut a sponsorship deal with OutreMer for a 50+ Cat for a year with the brand having an option to continue it. It's still under construction, not sure when they will actually get it.
