Re: A Dirty Topic.... Toilet Paper! What to do with it?

Hi,
I'm new here and read this topic.
As i was traveling in the east most countries there not use TP but flush with water.
Now when in harbor water is easy to come-by, at sea perhaps a salt water flush can be of use.
this is surely more clean, and never glock the toilet.
I do understand that sailing in the northern with icy water temperatures flushing will be a thrill hehehehe

I prefer the quality ones embossed with little hearts and clubs... on a bed of nautical ripples.
They seem to handle the Clingons better

Wifey B: Lol, Pelagic. Just please don't give me the scented kind. Why the heck do I care what color my toilet paper is (thank goodness they've gotten largely away from the colors) and why do I need it scented (which in fact has led to many health problems over the years). I mean I'm as much into fancy decorative things as the next person but designer toilet paper is not on my list.

For Pete's sake, it's toilet paper.

Put the paper with the poo where it belongs!
Not on my boat you won't! Guests get to take head apart if it clogs due to them not following instructions:

If it didn't enter your mouth, it doesn't enter the head.

Either our heads are different, our guests are different or we're just lucky. But we don't have a problem with clogged heads. We do instruct our guests and we do make sure our heads and hoses are in good order. Thinking maybe need to issue instructions at home with these water conservation toilets. Not complicated science that they use less water, therefore more prone to clogs.

Actually on the boat we encourage people to flush twice. Once for the poo. Then for the toilet paper. And we do warn that flushing of Kleenex or other such tissue, paper towels, or tampons is punishable by means that can't be published and the culprit has never imagined.

I will say this. Our guests are very good friends and most have been on our boats many times. I can only imagine the problems charter boats encounter where some guests don't care at all what they put the crew through.

Re: A Dirty Topic.... Toilet Paper! What to do with it?

IMO, any marine head that will not tolerate a modest amount of toilet paper being flushed is almost certainly either badly installed or badly maintained. Like many other posters, we have never restrained the use of TP in the head, and have used ours as much as anyone is likely to have.

The only clogs we have had (touching wood surreptitiously) have been due to buildup of calcium deposits. Adequate flushing and normal maintenance will remove that hazard. This fetish about bagging TP is over the top, and not going to happen on Insatiable II!

Cheers,

Jim
