Re: 40',50', 60' ?

Dina,

My husband and I have been cruising aboard our Oyster 53 throughout the Mediterranean for the past 9 years, the boat is fantastic for two people. Presently, my husband has been solo handling our Oyster 62 down in the eastern Caribbean while I’m back here in the US. We became separated when the borders closed a month ago, he’s in Guadeloupe.

We are assembling a crew to bring our Oyster 62 back up to New England, so please contact me if you’d be interested in coming aboard and seeing firsthand what it’s like to sail a fully automated Oyster yacht.

Pam

Re: 40',50', 60' ?

To be honest, from a full time live aboard perspective, instead of any difficulty in handling the boat (which can be easily solved with the right boat, the right systems, and the right approach to sailing) I would be more concerned about the general upkeep, cleaning, etc, that a larger boat requires.

At 60ft or more there starts to become quite a lot of hull and deck to scrub, bottom to clean, stainless to polish, interior to detail, etc, etc. So consider how you will manage that too, and if budget is available to pay for some help when needed.

Choosing the right boat can help a lot too. For example, I wouldn't recommend a 60ft boat with all varnished cap rails and other bright work. Look for a low maintenance boat instead.

Re: 40',50', 60' ?

Have a look for boats ober 50-52’. They do not sell well and their owners are ready to go with the price down. It is nit problem with shorthand sailing but maintenance. It takes a lot of work to keep the yacht clean and working, besides the costs of all the systems which are usually mounted. Even Amel has problems with Balmar or Steyr enginee so if you choose the yacht with a lot of equipment keep in mind that maintamce costs: time or money . Or both .
