2 fwd cabins to 1, Beneteau Oceanis 501

Hi

I have a 1991 Beneteau Oceanis 501 with 4 cabins and 4 heads (not counting the forward crew compartment) and would like to convert the 2 forward cabins into 1 with an island double bed and enlarge one of the forward heads to make a larger shower area.

Here one with the single cabin (see 8:10 minute mark)

And one with the double cabins like ours (the cabin with white sheets and pillow on the bed)

Did you try a search? It's been done, and it's on the internet.

No luck on my searches including some Beneteau owners sites.

I imagine Beneteau could set you up with the drawings and get the bits cut local.
I guess you have double doors which would be the bigger challenge to touch.

Re: 2 fwd cabins to 1, Beneteau Oceanis 501

We have a 1996 Jeanneau International 50 (similar to the 52.2). It was modified by the PO to remove the wall between the two forward v-bunk cabins. Removing the wall forward had no noticeable affect on the stiffness of the deck above. The wall was not even tabbed to the deck. They just cut it at the surface of the bunks and the sole. The covered the gap with trim and it looks fine. We had the two heads when we bought the boat. We removed the plumbing in the port side head and turned it into a walk in closet with lots of space for hanging clothes and new equipment like the water maker filters in the old waste tank compartment and solar controllers on the wall.

Re: 2 fwd cabins to 1, Beneteau Oceanis 501

I have a 1993 Beneteau Oceanus 510 4 cabin and I am in the process of changing the two forward cabins to one cabin with a centerline queen bed. I am changing one of the two small forward heads to a shower stall only and changing the other head on the port side to a toilet and laboratory. I removed the door from the salon to the port side cabin and used that small pass-through area to install a new lavatory that is accessible from the port head area. If you would like to see any pictures or talk about how this is done you can be in touch at sailorman39@msn.com

Re: 2 fwd cabins to 1, Beneteau Oceanis 501

I’ve seen photos of the process on this forum. And others. It’s not hard, just a lot of finishing work. If cartont can’t help you use google. I researched this when we were looking for B45-50s and found several photo journals. I recall the quality of the projects ran the gamut from just knocking out the wall and laying plywood to well thought out and finished. There’s extra space where one could fit drawers, or just waste the space with a quickie job, so there are design considerations.
