1989 Catalina27 Tall standing rig

I have had this boat since 2013 and sailed her all around the Gulf of Mexico coast from Mobile, Alabama to Lake Charles, Louisiana and have been in some small craft warning blows so the rig has been tested with no failure's (yet). After much study, research and review of rigging available from Catalina Direct I will be changing out all of the standing rigging and inspecting and re bedding all the chain plates changing boom and mast sheeve's, spreaders etc. I see catalina direct suggests an improved Chainplate U-Bolt retrofit as opposed to the older original eyebolt shroud setup. I like the additional strength and am planning on going with the retrofit. Anyone have any experience or opinion about this arrangement? Flaked main and roller furling genoa.

You're paying quite a bit for convenience. How much would a length of aluminium angle and 4 quality u bolts cost locally?

I'm surprised you don't know about these guys since you've had your boat for seven years.

Catalina Direct is a great company and provides outstanding support. I can't recommend them enough. With that said, I've found their prices on standing rigging to be high and have used https://www.riggingandhardware.com/. They replaced all the standing rigging on my former C-250. I could have provided them the measurements, but it wasn't expensive to ship them my old rigging. You can price out the components and labor on their website to compare.

+1. We picked up a C27 and replaced the chain plates w/our own u bolts and backing plates for next to nothing. An easy project.
