Re: Northwest Passage

In 2016 Northabout transited both the Northern Sea Route and the Northwest Passage in a single season.

While ice extent is at near record lows, what matters is distribution of that ice which is function of wind.

You probably should not post screen captures that include your email address.

with floating ice yes that's why the Alaskan coast is ice free now but the fast ice in the archipelago not so much its not floating it is fast ice which means grounded

Your definition of "fast ice" appears to be too exclusive

Fast ice | Wikipedia
Quote:
Fast ice (also called land-fast ice, landfast ice, and shore-fast ice) is sea ice that is "fastened" to the coastline, to the sea floor along shoals or to grounded icebergs.[1][2][3] Fast ice may either grow in place from the sea water or by freezing pieces of drifting ice to the shore or other anchor sites.[1][4] Unlike drift (or pack) ice, fast ice does not move with currents and winds. ...

Perhaps you should try again.

Quote:
Ice which forms and remains fast along the coast. It may be attached to the shore, to an ice wall, to an ice front, between shoals or grounded icebergs. Vertical fluctuations may be observed during changes of sea level. It may be formed “in-situ” from water or by freezing of floating ice of any age to shore and can extend a few metres or several hundred kilometres from the coast. It may be more than one year old in which case it may be prefixed with the appropriate age category (old, second-year or multi-year). If higher than 2 m above sea level, it is called an ice shelf.

Your claimed your definition was that of EC, it is not. What do we call a false claim? A lie.

The remaining ice in the NWP is first year ice; multiyear ice is pretty much a thing of the past. With warmer than average temperatures it will melt. Remember the melt season lasts until the middle of September.

Re: Northwest Passage

We humans aren't the only ones who "enjoy" polar travel. An arctic fox traveled 2,176 miles in 76 days, from Norway's Svalbard island to Canada's Ellesmere Island.

Scientists 'speechless' at Arctic fox's epic trek
