What baffles me is how people "accept the science" on anything that doesn't impinge on their political or religious beliefs. Nuclear physics? Check. Chemistry? Check. Biology? Check. The scientists are all brilliant.
On any of these subject areas, the average person would not even acknowledge they had an informed opinion, let alone purport that their own "common sense" would refute the scientific consensus.
But, once it defies one's political preconceptions -- i.e., climate change, or religious views (evolution and sometimes medicine), all of a sudden, everyone becomes an expert. And not just an expert, THE expert whose fact-free analysis trumps folks who have studied in the field for decades.
Which means that people are not arguing about the science, but about their own biases. Plain and simple.
It's laughable, actually.
Thanks for the laugh.

And, if you read those skeptical scientists, most acknowledge a warming period but say they are not quite ready to call it a "trend." In other words, they aren't deniers, per se, but only skeptical of how far the overwhelming majority of their colleagues are prepared to go.
But, again, with the general public this is politics (and Al Gore hatred), not science. So, such nuances will be conveniently ignored.

Sea Ice : Feature Articles
Unlike the Arctic, where the downward trend is consistent in all sectors, in all months, and in all seasons, the Antarctic picture is more complex. Based on data from 1979-2006, the annual trend for four of the five individual sectors was a very small positive one, but only in the Ross Sea was the increase statistically significant (greater than the natural year-to-year variability). On the other hand, ice extent decreased in the Bellingshausen/Amundsen Sea sector during the same period.
The variability in Antarctic sea ice patterns in different sectors and from year to year makes it difficult to predict how Antarctic sea ice extent could change as global warming from greenhouse gases continues to warm the Earth. Climate models predict that Antarctic sea ice will respond more slowly than Arctic sea ice to warming, but as temperatures continue to rise, a long-term decline is expected.

[QUOTE=weavis;1780948] Climate change: this is the worst scientific scandal of our generation - Telegraph
This article dealt with "Climategate", not the IPCC reports.
Quote:
Six official investigations have cleared scientists of accusations of wrongdoing.
- A three-part Penn State University report cleared scientist Michael Mann of wrongdoing.
- Two reviews commissioned by the University of East Anglia"supported the honesty and integrity of scientists in the Climatic Research Unit."
- A UK Parliament report concluded that the emails have no bearing on our understanding of climate science and that claims against UEA scientists are misleading.
- The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Inspector General's office concluded there was no evidence of wrongdoing on behalf of their employees.
- The National Science Foundation's Inspector General's office concluded, "Lacking any direct evidence of research misconduct...we are closing this investigation with no further action."
Other agencies and media outlets have investigated the substance of the emails.
- The Environmental Protection Agency, in response to petitions against action to curb heat-trapping emissions, dismissed attacks on the science rooted in the stolen emails.
- Factcheck.org debunked claims that the emails put the conclusions of climate science into question.
- Politifact.com rated claims that the emails falsify climate science as "false."
- An Associated Press review of the emails found that they "don't undercut the vast body of evidence showing the world is warming because of man-made greenhouse gas emissions."

Pathetic. Argument by (bad) analogy. You lose round one on the junior high debate circuit.

The World has been cooling and warming for BILLIONS of years without mankind's help... what an arrogant thought that we have (or can) do anything to affect that!

I am always amused by those who subscribe to the extreme views of society (Be it Liberal, Conservative, Green, Guns or Anchors). It would seem once the magic Kool-aid has been consumed there is no other point of view that could possibly be correct, and everyone who doesn't think the same is either a fool, racist, or village idiot!
